When do you Expect a Promotion?

This may sound like a strange question but it happens. An interviewer may feel threatened. Make sure you sound supportive. Say something like “I don’t have a definitive answer, but within any position, I expect to be given new and sometimes greater responsibilities as I successfully complete the projects given to me. At some point, my past track record of performance will suggest that I am ready for a promotion.”

How do you Make Decisions?

This is less about you as an individual and more about you being a good employee. Let them know that for any major decisions, you will discuss with your boss and determine if there is protocol or policy you should apply. When making decisions, let them know that you weigh the pros and cons and seek the input of others who will be impacted by the decisions. Then, turn the question on them. Ask them what types of decisions you will be expected to make in this role. This displays your leadership right off the bat.

Listen Intently

How can communication be about listening when it’s really about talking? The key thing about communication is that if you are able to listen intently to the other person and hear beyond the words, you’ll have more value to add to the conversation. You’ll be able to say something that is beyond the surface level. Listening intently doesn’t just mean hearing their words, but also how they’re feeling and what they are truly trying to express or not express. Use your intuition and listen for what they are truly saying. They will automatically feel more connected to you and feel more comfortable sharing with you.

Tell Stories

Tell a story that relates to what the other person is talking about. The story obviously must have a point and be in relation to what you are discussing. A good story follows the same pattern as a good movie. There are three important parts: situation, action, and results. The majority of the movie is made up of the situation: getting to know the characters and their challenges. Next comes the action. This is where you see the steps the character is taking to resolve the initial problem or situation. The last part is the conclusion or result: what ended up happening? When you tell your stories using this structure, the other person will feel more engaged and get the point you’re trying to make.

Practice

So many professionals overlook. You must practice ahead of time what you plan to say! If you had an important presentation at work, you would practice ahead of time. It doesn’t hurt to do the same for other situations. You want your stories prepared ahead of time so when you deliver them, they are fluid and come off naturally. Without thinking through your stories, you won’t succeed in your delivery.

Work on your communication skills by practicing in your own time. Make sure you also practice listening intently when others speak. The next time you have to go into a conversation, one on one or to a whole group, you will feel much more confident!

Network More Often

Networking was a buzzword in 2018 and will continue to be into 2019. The purpose of networking is not usually to find a new job, but rather to create a circle of people around you that can potentially help you in your career. You can find a mentor, become a mentor, learn a new skill, or simply have a conversation by networking. How do you go about networking? You can attend formal networking events, get set up with a local networking chapter in your area or even use Linkedin as a networking tool. Volunteering to help your company by taking on an extra project shows that you are a team player. As extra motivation to volunteer for these projects, look out for things you are particularly good at. You will be able to exhibit your skills while helping your company at the same time.

Asking for an evaluation from your boss can take some courage, but it will help give your career a boost this year. Tips For Stretching Before a Round of Golf

It’s important to stretch before engaging in physical activity such as golf. By performing a few stretching exercises before a round, a golfer will be able to have more endurance during the round, and the a golfer will have the flexibility that is required for a full swing.

 

A good way to start the stretching routine is by loosening up the legs and the back. One can start with the quadriceps.

 

To stretch the quadriceps, stand with the back towards a chair. Place one foot up on the chair. Tighten and loosen the buttocks muscle to stretch the quadriceps. Do this stretch with both legs.

 

In order to loosen up the back while doing this stretch, cross the arms across the chest. Imitate a golf swing motion while performing the quadriceps exercise.

 

To stretch out the muscles of the back, stand one step away from the back of a chair. The feet should be apart. Place both hands spread apart on the back of the chair. Move the body both down and away from the chair while keeping the back straight. Go down until tension is felt in the armpits.

 

The wrists play an important role in the golf swing, so it is important that the wrists be stretched out as well. Hold one arm out straight. Lift the hand up with the palm facing out. Use the other hand to pull back gently on the upraised hand. Do this stretch for both wrists.

 

There is a good stretching exercise to help the arms. For this stretch, stand in a doorway with both the elbows and shoulders at 90 degree angles. Hold the door frame, and take one step forward. Hold this position for about thirty seconds.

 

It always helps to be stretched out through the waist in order to improve the swing. To stretch this area, grab a golf club. Hold the club behind the back lengthwise hooked through the arms. Turn to the left and hold the position for 30 seconds. Turn to the right and hold for 30 seconds on that side as well.

 

By following a stretching routine such as the one outlined above, a golfer will have a looser swing and will be less prone to injury. If a golfer has a particular area of the body that feels tight, that area should be emphasized during stretching.
